4 tips to prevent Tooth decay in kids

tips to prevent Tooth decay in kids

As parents, it is easy to think that our kids will lose their baby teeth anyway and that we shouldn’t pay so much attention. The truth is, tooth decay can easily happen with kids if you don’t look after their teeth properly. Also, it is never a bad idea to instill good oral hygiene habits while they are still young.

This is how they will grow up with great oral hygiene and suffer less from problems that may arise from a bad one.

Preventing tooth decay in kids is quite easy.

All you have to do is persistently follow these 4 tips:

    1. Good oral care habits. Start them young! Make sure your child brushes their teeth twice a day, whether they have 1 or 20 teeth! This habit will stay with them as they grow and become an essential part of their routine.
    1. Monitor what they eat and when. Making sure your children follow a healthy diet is not only beneficial for their general well-being but very important to their oral hygiene. Make sure they brush their teeth after eating sugar and after their bottle of milk, especially at night or during nap time.
    1. Most parents leave the dentist last on their list for their children. It’s understandable. Taking kids for check-ups is already quite stressful. However, it is important you take them for a check-up at the dentist’s to see if everything is normal and to make sure there is no early sign of tooth decay. This can avoid a lot of complications and unnecessary pain in the long run. Dentists for children are usually very understanding and make it fun for the kids!
    1. Make sure they drink water throughout the day to wash away food particles and keep the mouth moist.  Water should be their preferred drink. Try to avoid sugary drinks and juices as they contain a lot of sugar, and some juices, like orange juice, are also very acidic. Sugar and acid can feed bad bacteria in your child’s mouth.
