General Dental Information Dr. Hessah AlKandariBy Dr. Hessah AlKandari

Why Regular Dental Check-Up is Important in Your Oral Hygiene?

A smile is a free passage to all hearts. It is the only common language of the whole world. Dr. Hessa El Kandari insists on the fact that visiting the dentist every six months is very important to make sure that your gums and teeth are strong and healthy. It is vital to ensure a healthy and beautiful smile.

Dr. El Kandari states that the dentist is the person qualified to provide you with the healthcare routine and the necessary advice to help you improve your smile.

What is a periodic/regular dental examination and what does it include?

It is an examination done by the dentist every six months to check your teeth and gums in order to avoid any problems.

The periodic dental examination at the dental clinic includes:

    1- Medical History

The medical history of your dental health and general health to collect your medical data about your health and lifestyle, and to realize the problems you face. Your dentist will also ask if you suffer from general diseases related to some gum and dental problems such as diabetes and heart disease. Also, do not forget to inform your doctor about the list of medications and treatments that you use.

    2- Oral care

It is the process of removing the layers of plaque and lime accumulated on the teeth and gums

After that, the dentist polishes your teeth to get rid of the dyes acquired from some foods and drinks such as tea and coffee, as well as rid the mouth of unpleasant odors resulting from the accumulation and growth of bacteria in the mouth.

In addition, the doctor puts a layer of fluoride on the teeth to protect the teeth from decay, and works to increase the hardness of the tooth enamel.

3- Examination of the teeth and gums

The dentist examines your teeth and gums and locates your periodontal pockets. What are periodontal pockets? It is the distance between the surface of the gums and the fixed point of the teeth inside it. If its depth increases, this indicates a disease in the gums, which requires medical follow-up.

    4- X-ray examination

It is the last step in the periodic examination. It is useful in detecting any potential problems on the teeth and under the mouth. It helps the doctor discover many diseases and thus automatically contributes to the accurate diagnosis of the case, which helps him develop the appropriate treatment plan for the patient.

These X-rays show the visible and hidden parts of your teeth and gums. Through them, the doctor assesses the areas that need treatment in the dental clinic or refers you to another doctor if the rays reveal any other health problems.

    In conclusion

Everything Dr. El Kandari emphasizes is that you should never neglect to check your teeth periodically to maintain their health as well as your general health. Most importantly, keep on brushing your teeth daily, and use medical floss and mouthwash.
